The Philippines and Brunei Darussalam have signed a landmark agreement that will significantly strengthen and boost mutual cooperation in the tourism sector, marking a significant milestone in fostering closer ties and cooperation between the two Southeast Asian countries.
The agreement aims to strengthen efforts to strengthen, promote and develop tourism cooperation between the two countries, with key objectives including increasing tourism to and through both countries from global tourist markets, and facilitating visitor distribution to various destinations and attractions in both Brunei and the Philippines.

To recall, the last time a tourism cooperation agreement was signed between the Philippines and Brunei Darussalam was 13 years ago.
According to the new agreement, the two countries will cooperate in promoting the concept of Muslim-friendly tourism and halal tourism, exchanging best practices in the organization, management and operation of tourism activities, human resource development, joint promotion programs, development of tour packages, medical and health tourism, encouraging tourism investment, promoting community-based tourism and ecotourism initiatives, promoting MICE tourism, information exchange, standardization and certification, exchanges and IT development, gender and development programs, and facilitating commercial agreements between their national airlines.
Currently, three airlines, Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific and Royal Brunei Airlines, operate direct flights from Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam to Manila, Philippines and vice versa.
“This collaboration is expected to enhance tourists’ overall experience, strengthen economic ties, and contribute to the sustainable development of the tourism industry in both countries,” said Philippine Tourism Secretary Cristina Garcia Frasco.
