Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said Saturday he wants his country to become a world-renowned tourism and entertainment hub with luxury integrated resort development playing a central role.
His comments were made during a speech at the grand opening of Solaire Resort North in Quezon City on Saturday, where he said the property will help promote the Philippines’ “unique brand of hospitality” to the world.
“We are confident that Solaire Resorts North will support our desire to build on this strength and elevate our position in the global hospitality industry,” said Marcos.
“[Bloomberry’s] Its first development, Solaire Resort Entertainment City, has already set the benchmark for quality and innovation in providing tourism and hospitality services to guests from across the country and around the world.
“So as we open the doors of Solaire Resort North, we also open our arms to the world and invite it to experience the warmth and beauty of our country. Solaire Resort North will undoubtedly play a huge role in this. We want to show the world that we are ready to embrace the opportunities the world offers us, and we are confident that the world will embrace us in return.”
“It is indeed a bold and ambitious move to position the Philippines as the perfect destination for tourism, relaxation and entertainment.
“We appreciate your continued cooperation with us to ensure that your visit to our facilities is a safe, rewarding and memorable experience.”
President Marcos also recognized the role that tourism has played in the post-COVID-19 economic recovery.
“We are gradually beginning to witness hotels, restaurants, entertainment venues and tourist destinations slowly but surely rise to the challenge of reviving travel, welcoming 5.45 million inbound tourists in 2023,” he said. “This is more than double the 2.65 million visitors recorded in 2022.”
President Marcos added that the government’s goal is to “let the whole world know that the Philippines is open for tourism and business.”
According to the President, the gaming industry continues to contribute significantly to the country’s development, employing about 100,000 Filipinos in various roles in casino operations in 2019.
