Puerto Vallarta, the tourism jewel of Jalisco, is enjoying a strong year for tourism, with air travel driving the surge, with passenger numbers up 2.6% in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. This means an additional 96,500 air travelers this year.
For international travelers, the growth is even more impressive: International arrivals by air surged 7.8%, with nearly 177,000 more international visitors to Puerto Vallarta so far in 2024.
The good news extends beyond airports: Cruise ship arrivals are doing well, with 94 ships calling in the first half of the year and carrying 285,625 passengers, while bus passenger numbers also saw a small increase of 3%.
Looking ahead, summer is expected to be another winning season for Puerto Vallarta, with forecasts showing tourism numbers increasing by at least 3% and hotel occupancy rates averaging 78%, rising to 80% to 85% on weekends.
Luis Villaseñor, president of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board, stressed the importance of promoting these efforts.
“We are aggressively promoting Puerto Vallarta domestically,” said Luis Villaseñor, director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board. “Summer is the best time for domestic tourists, but we are also focusing on the international market. With new routes from Alaska Airlines and increased frequency from American Airlines, we expect to attract even more international guests.”
With strong performance in the first half of 2024 and exciting developments in air travel, Puerto Vallarta looks poised for another record-breaking year.
