Last year, Iran and Russia introduced a visa-free exchange program that allows travelers in tour groups to visit each other’s countries without visas. This initiative further attracted the interest of Iranian tourists.
By the end of 2023, approximately 29,500 Iranian tourists have visited Russia, and approximately 17,000 people have traveled from Russia to Iran.
Efforts are underway to attract more tourists from Russia, with authorities working to allow meal card payments in Iran. This will simplify financial transactions for Russian travelers and improve their travel experience in Russia. This was reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.
Regarding aviation, Russia is expanding its air links with Iran by issuing additional permits for direct flights to various destinations within the country.
Russian travel companies note a general increase in interest in Iran. These developments demonstrate progress in strengthening relations between the two countries and creating opportunities for cultural exchange and tourism, as Iran seeks to establish itself as a popular tourist destination.
Last year, more than 6 million foreign tourists visited Iran by air, land and sea. Iran recently canceled visa requirements for nationals of 32 countries in a bid to promote tourism and strengthen international relations.
