Šekleland won several categories at the Romanian Tourism Destination of the Year 2024 awards, which were presented at the Atenul Roman (Romanian Athenaeum) Concert Hall in Bucharest.
In the Theme Parks and Adventure Parks category, the Mini Transylvanian Park in Baile Seixe (Sagefürdu) near Odorheił Sekěscu (Szekelydváheli) was named Tourist Destination of the Year. This multicultural themed model park, created by the team of Szeklerant Legendarium, offers visitors the opportunity to see miniature replicas of his more than 120 historical buildings in Transylvania.
The park, which offers a tour around the park on a miniature train (Mini-Sheckler Steamer), attracted more than 120,000 visitors last year, mostly from across the country.
In the promotional film category, the film commissioned by Visit Hargita won. Harghita County is promoted as a family-friendly destination by the Harghita Regional Development Association and produced by Odolheił Sekiescu’s Picture Rock film studio.
In the boutique hotel category, Daniel Castle Hotel in Talișoara (Olašterek), Cobasna province, was named “Tourist Destination of the Year”. Built in Renaissance style in the early 17th century by Trište’s vice-captain Michael his Daniel, the castle has been renovated several times and is now a luxury hotel. The rooms are decorated in a variety of styles with period furniture and murals depicting the Daniel family.
In the resort category, Sovata, known for its solar-heated pool Lakul Ours (Medve Tor), villas reminiscent of a 19th-century spa town, and a modern wellness hotel, came in second after Blanc and Baile Felix (Felix Huldeau). He took 3rd place.
The project “Băile Tuşnad (Tusnádfürdő) and its surroundings” received a tie for third place in the ecotourism category, after the Danube Delta tourism enterprise and the Hátszeg region tourism enterprise.
Sibiu (Nagysheven) won first place in the “Inspiring City” category, was awarded the Grand Prix for Destination of the Year 2024, and received the most votes overall.
Rankings in 13 categories were determined by a jury of more than 200 tourism experts, hundreds of thousands of online public votes, and a national poll.
