Thai authorities said all six were foreigners and that their causes of death were under investigation.
The Thai government said six people were found dead at a luxury hotel in Bangkok.
“Prime minister [Srettha Thavisin] “We have ordered all agencies to take emergency measures to avoid any impact on the tourism industry,” the Thai government said in a statement on Tuesday.
In a separate statement, Thai police said all six were foreigners.
Police officers said they had discovered a body at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel after receiving a call from hotel staff at about 5.30pm (10.30am GMT).
Police officials also denied earlier reports in Thai media that six people had been killed in the shooting.
“There is no sign of gunfire,” the official told Reuters, adding that a Vietnamese national was among the dead.
Featuring over 350 rooms, Grand Hyatt Erawan is located in a popular tourist district known for its upscale shopping and restaurants.
Tuesday’s incident came as Thailand seeks to further promote its tourism sector, a key driver of Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy.
But it is not the first time such an incident has rattled the country’s tourism industry: A shooting at a luxury shopping mall near the Hyatt hotel in October left two foreigners dead, prompting the government to take measures to shore up confidence in the industry.
More than 28 million foreign tourists visited Thailand last year, spending 1.2 trillion baht ($33.3 billion) in the country, even as other major sectors of the economy were slow to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The government expects foreign arrivals to reach 35 million this year thanks to visa length extensions and exemptions for multiple nationalities.
