This week senior executives from Tourism Sunshine Coast (VSC) and Sunshine Coast Airport (SCA) visited Auckland to meet with Air New Zealand and key trading partners in view of the resumption of direct flights between Auckland and Sunshine Coast airports on June 26.
The seasonal service will operate throughout the winter and following a strong performance in 2023, the Sunshine Coast team is optimistic they can attract record numbers of New Zealand tourists in 2024.
Air New Zealand’s flights launch at an ideal time for adventure seekers, with Mooloolaba one of Australia’s top destinations for whale watching, swimming with and even listening to whales.
This is also the time of year for foodie events, such as The Curated Plate festival, which runs from July 26th to August 4th.
Air New Zealand flights will continue until October, with Sunshine Coast Tourism CEO Matt Stockel welcoming the return of direct flights.
“We know the New Zealand market has a strong affinity with the Sunshine Coast, it’s our largest international market and we see great potential for growth,” Mr Stokell said.
“We will continue to work closely with the Air New Zealand team and our trade partners to make the most of our seasonal services and drive further business to the region.”
Sunshine Coast Airport general manager of aviation and commercial, Scott Norris, highlighted Air New Zealand’s return would create huge tourism and business opportunities for the region.
“It was a great journey to Auckland with VSC and I look forward to seeing Air New Zealand land at Sunshine Coast Airport again next week,” Mr Norris said.
“Every year, thousands of New Zealanders choose to fly direct to the Sunshine Coast, with more than 17,000 seats available between the two destinations this season and we look forward to another great year in 2024.”
