(MENAFN) Jordan’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities reported that Arab nationals accounted for 53.2 percent of all visitors to Jordan in the first half of this year. The total number of international visitors to Jordan during this period was about 2.786 million, down 8 percent from 3.025 million during the same period last year.
According to ministry data reviewed by Al Ghad, tourist inflows from Arab countries in the first half of this year reached approximately 1.483 million, up 7.7 percent from 1.376 million in the same period last year, an increase of 107,000. Additionally, the number of Jordanian expatriates who visited the Kingdom in the first half of this year rose to 791,000 from 715,000 in the same period last year, an increase of 10.6 percent, representing an increase of more than 76,000 expatriates.
Foreign visitors accounted for approximately 28.3 percent of all visitors to Jordan in the first half of this year.
However, the data also showed a significant drop in visitor numbers from European countries, with visitor numbers falling by about 31.5 percent to 316,100 in the first half of the year from 461,800 in the same period last year. European visitors accounted for about 11.3 percent of the total number of visitors to Jordan.
The number of visitors from Asian countries also fell sharply by 48.9 percent in the first half of this year, dropping to 97,000 from 190,300 in the same period last year. Visitors from Asia accounted for 3.4 percent of all international visitors to Jordan during this period.
Additionally, the number of visitors from the Americas in the first half of this year fell sharply by 55.3% compared to the same period last year, to approximately 173,700.
These statistics highlight a major shift in Jordan’s tourism demographics: visitors from Arab countries and Jordanian expatriates are on the rise, while visitors from Europe, Asia and the Americas are declining significantly.
