Which country is the most dangerous in the world?

It’s difficult to quantify the world’s most dangerous countries because there are so many factors to consider. But these places usually include non-tourist destinations that even the most intrepid travelers would avoid right now. According to the Global Peace Index’s list of the world’s 10 most dangerous countries in 2023, the most dangerous countries are Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, South Sudan, Congo, Russia, Ukraine, Somalia, Sudan, and Iraq. There is. This is in line with the US State Department’s travel advisory, where 19 countries, including the countries listed above, have reached Level 4, the highest risk, and are under “do not travel” warnings. (Others include North Korea, Iran, Somalia, and Haiti.)

However, there are other more attractive countries that are still rated at travel advisory level 2, 3 or even 4. This is explained below.

How we identified the world’s most dangerous places

We used several research institutes to compile our list. This includes the Global Peace Index (GPI). The index uses 23 indicators to derive figures across three areas: social safety and security, ongoing domestic and international conflicts, and the extent of conflict. militarization. U.S. travel advisories are based on similar factors. Additionally, we considered the Travel Risk Map from the healthcare and security company International SOS, which measures healthcare and security risks separately for each country.

It’s also important to consider the risks for certain groups, such as LGBTQ people and solo female travelers, who may face more specific threats in supposedly safe countries. Additionally, American tourists may be more visible and more targeted in non-Western countries. However, the chances of becoming a victim seem low, so keep in mind the risk of something really bad happening. Although there is a lack of reliable research on tourist fatalities and crime reports from Americans abroad, the CDC has found that the most common cause of fatalities abroad is the same as at home: traffic accidents. It has said.

With that in mind, we present to you a list of the most dangerous places in the world.
