Gov. Gavin Newsom said the state saw record visitor numbers, and Sacramento itself saw an increase in visitor numbers. The reason is as follows

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The state and capital city are seeing an increase in tourism as more people look to California and Sacramento as vacation destinations.

Gov. Gavin Newsom recently announced on social media that the state has broken records for tourist numbers from atop the Golden Gate Bridge.

“Last year’s record-breaking tourism industry saw $150 million invested by tourists from around the world visiting our great state of California,” he said in a video.

However, tourism to Sacramento, which is closer to my hometown where the bridge actually shines gold, is on the rise.

According to Mike Testa, CEO of Visit Sacramento, the surge in tourism is directly related to hosting the event.

“Pre-pandemic hotel tax collections were $32 million and now they’re $37 million,” Testa said.

Sacramento County generates $4 billion in tourist spending, including food and transportation.

Increased hotel rates will also increase revenue as demand itself is increasing.

Last year 332,000,000 rooms were booked. According to Testa, this is the highest number in decades, and this success is largely due to the fact that the capital hosts many events.

“Aftershock, America’s largest hard rock festival. Golden Sky, a two-day festival that started two years ago, will be held for three days this year. Farm to Folk is certainly a draw. Numerous smaller “Event. Last year’s Sol Blume was a big hit, but unfortunately it was canceled this year,” Testa said.

And the city is only planning to hold more events. Visit Sacramento apparently has a hula festival going on.

This weekend, the Memorial Auditorium will host Tele Madre Americas, one of the world’s largest food conferences. Sacramento will be the first US city to host the event.

Emanuele Duguerra flew in from Milan, Italy, with his coffee production team.

“We came from Italy with the idea of drinking delicious, clean and fair coffee,” Duguerra said.

The festival, usually held in Italy, attracted thousands of spectators.

Another factor contributing to the increase in tourism is business conventions.

California and Sacramento State added more conferences as other states struggled. However, the number of participants is down overall compared to pre-pandemic levels.

According to Visit Sacramento, there is currently a lot of interest in hotel development due to demand, and even more so now that the Athletics are currently playing in West Sacramento.
