Tourism BC, in partnership with BC First Nations Tourism and Regional Tourism Management Organizations, is working with industry stakeholders to promote regional tourism through an iconic destination investment strategy, with a focus on bringing together diverse perspectives to address opportunities and challenges unique to different regions.
Recent Initiatives
Over the past quarter, the Southern Valley Region and Southeastern British Columbia Iconics Tourism Destination Development Project Team hosted a series of virtual and in-person meetings with stakeholders in the region.
These sessions attracted a wide range of participants, including:
Regional Tourism BusinessesIndigenous Tourism BusinessesResort Advocacy GroupsEconomic Development AgenciesCommunity Tourism Management Organizations (CDMOs)Representatives from Thompson Okanagan Tourism and Kootenay Rockies Tourism Southern Valleys Engagement
For the Southern Valley region, a virtual engagement session took place in May 2024, followed by an in-person meeting in Summerland in June 2024. These sessions provided key insights and feedback from local stakeholders to shape the future direction of tourism in the region.
Initiatives in southeastern British Columbia
In southeastern British Columbia, a workshop was held with the Kootenay Rockies Regional Tourism Destination Management Board in April 2024. Additionally, one-on-one interviews will be conducted with industry leaders throughout July 2024 to gather more information on specific opportunities and ongoing efforts.
Improving visitor experience
The ultimate goal of these engagement activities is to develop a comprehensive destination development strategy for each iconic region that aims to enhance the visitor experience by providing unique and compelling attractions that attract tourists and support the local economy.
Destination BC leverages the insights and expertise of local stakeholders to create sustainable, vibrant tourism destinations that benefit both visitors and local communities.
