Domestic tourism in Alicante province is expected to increase significantly in 2024, according to mobile phone location data from the National Statistics Institute (INE).
Between January and March, the number of people who came to the region from other parts of Spain increased by 114,067 compared to the same period in 2023, reaching a total of 1,342,469.
This represents an increase of 9.29 percent and suggests that winter remains a strong tourism season in the state, albeit with some variations.

Peak in tourist numbers
The number of visitors from January to March, exceeding 1.34 million, contributes to the seasonal decline in the tourism sector, but continues to follow a pattern of peak visitor numbers in the summer months, with relatively quiet autumn and winter months.
Beaches are the main attraction in the Alicante region, with the coastal municipalities receiving the majority of tourists.
Most of the tourists come from central Spain, where they miss the coast.
Winter Boost
A good example of this is how March, coinciding with Easter, recorded the highest figures of the quarter, providing momentum for the rest of the winter period.
In March alone, 534,744 people visited the region, of which 166,658 came from the Region of Madrid.
This figure is significantly higher than the 121,224 cases in the rest of the Valencian Community.
