Eligible businesses are eligible to receive up to $5,000 in financial incentives to expand and grow their businesses.

The Puerto Rico Tourism Company is launching the “Takeoff” program, billed as the first business accelerator for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the tourism industry, offering up to $5,000 to help them expand their businesses. Applications are due by May 5th.

Through this initiative, 20 companies will be selected to receive training from experts on best strategies and practices. Officials say the program aims to facilitate “the rapid and efficient development of existing businesses” and will give participants the tools, knowledge and resources they need to grow their businesses. .

Carlos Mercado, executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, said: “95% of Puerto Rico’s tourism-oriented businesses are small and medium-sized enterprises, and the tourism company implements various strategies to promote their development and growth. I have a strong determination.”

“’Take Off’ is the latest initiative we have designed to strengthen the industry and solidify Puerto Rico as a top tourist destination,” he said.

“Furthermore, we are confident that this program will serve as a job creation tool that will have a significant impact on the island’s economy,” he added.

The program offers six training modules, guidance from experts in various fields, and visibility of participating companies on the Tourism Board platform and at events organized by the Tourism Board.

Eligibility criteria for applicants include having 18-36 months of sales experience and being in a specific tourism sector. This includes participation in sustainable tourism programs, preferred inns with 925 rooms or fewer, tourism-focused technology and innovation companies, certified tour operators, or managers of at least five registered short-term rental units. It will be.

“This program strengthens all areas of tourism services and improves the experience for both residents and visitors. Tourism Small Business Development is part of the Puerto Rico government’s commitment to destination development and is a direct investment in the industry. and to facilitate the expansion of indirect effects,” Mercado said.
