Information decoded by Valliant Renegade and WDW Pro reveals that Universal Studios is very likely preparing to re-enter the European market. Epic Universe may be just the beginning of Disney’s headaches.
It’s been a great decade for Universal Studios. Despite a global pandemic and many other issues that could easily devastate a small theme park company, Universal is forging ahead and cutting directly into Disney’s global market. Disney, once the undisputed king of theme parks, faces increasing competition from Universal, with parks such as Harry Potter World and Super Nintendo World hailed as superior to Disney properties. The more often. Beyond Magic Kingdom, Universal Studios is currently making significant strides over Disney’s other Orlando parks.
Many thought the big threat to Disney was Universal’s huge new theme park, Epic Universe, opening in Orlando. Now, even that might pale in comparison to the gauntlet being thrown down.
Universal Studios is likely preparing to build a huge theme park resort in Europe in the next few years. This information came as both WDW Pro and Valliant Renegade were looking into completely unrelated information from theme park officials within the industry. It contained no internal documents or statements that would violate non-disclosure agreements, and some of the discussions freely provided to the two men contained hidden language that did not appear to be directly tied to the existing theme park. After some serious research, both VR and Pro came to the conclusion that what they were considering was actually confirmation of Universal Studios’ expansion into Europe. Based on their analysis, this does not appear to be about gaining control of older assets that Universal has been involved with in the past. Rather, it appears to be a very large investment, on par with the entirety of Universal Studios in Orlando, and it looks like something entirely new.
This is a big deal for Disney to deal with as earnings day begins as Florida gains special status and Robert Iger seeks to keep Nelson Peltz off the board. . But when it rains, it pours.
