(North Plate, Nebraska, May 15, 2024) – May 19-25, 2024 is National Travel and Tourism Week. Visit North Plate will spend the week celebrating travel and tourism in the region and the people who continue to be essential to the industry’s success.
Visitors to North Platte and Lincoln County, Nebraska spent more than $125 million annually on local lodging, restaurants, attractions, events and retail. This cost him more than $10 million in state and local taxes. Local tourism spending supports more than 1,500 jobs and $30 million in payroll each year. Tourism simulates economic growth, fosters vibrant communities, creates quality employment opportunities, simulates business activity, and improves the quality of life for everyone.
Nationally, the travel industry generated $2.8 trillion in economic output and supported 15 million jobs in 2023. Travel spending also generated $89 billion in federal, state, and local taxes in 2023, and that revenue helped fund critical public services.
Visit North Plate will recognize the important contributions of travelers throughout this week and will be held at Prairie Arts on Monday, May 20th at 12:30 p.m., as Mayor Kelliher declares May 19th to May 25th. – The public is invited to join North Plate Mayor Brandon Kelliher at the centre. Visit North Plate is funded by lodging taxes generated when visitors stay at hotels or lodging facilities within Lincoln County. The Visitor’s Bureau’s mission is to “…improve and promote the positive image of the North Plate and Lincoln County communities and assist in the development, continuation, and promotion of quality events, attractions, and amenities for the enjoyment of residents and visitors.” We will continue to fulfill our mission.
