The first FOBI World Championship, an international level lion dance competition scheduled for May 17-19 in Jakarta, is expected to contribute to promoting sports tourism in Indonesia, a Ministry of Youth and Sports official said. .
Samsuddin, a staff member specializing in sports law at the ministry, praised the preparation steps taken by the Indonesian Lion Dance Sports Association (FOBI) to host the world championships aimed at supporting Indonesia’s lion dance scene.
“Indonesia’s hosting of the Lion Dance World Championships will introduce the country to participating countries, advance sports tourism, and in turn benefit the national economy,” he said in a ministry statement received here on Friday. It is expected that this will bring about.”
Mr. Samsuddin affirmed his ministry’s full support for FOBI’s efforts to make Indonesia a suitable host and participating country.
The official further said that Indonesia’s lion dance will reach an important milestone this year as it will be participating for the first time in the 21st National Sports Week (PON), a national sports championship scheduled in Aceh and North Sumatra.

A total of 550 athletes from national champion teams from 10 countries will participate in the inaugural FOBI World Championship.
During the championship, athletes will compete for three different trophies: the President’s Cup for the Southern Lion Dance (Barong Sai), the Minister of Youth and Sports Cup for the Northern Lion Dance (Beijing Festival), and the Minister of Defense Cup for the Dragon. dance.
