Tourism is a major contributor to the Yukon economy. Businesses and organizations that offer unique experiences play a key role in engaging locals and attracting visitors from around the country and the world. Increased tourism strengthens the local economy and benefits other businesses and destinations in the region.
Today, Yukon Member of Parliament Dr. Brendan Hanley, on behalf of Minister of Northern Affairs Dan Vandal, PrairiesCan and CanNor, announced that the Government of Canada will invest approximately $800,000 to strengthen Yukon’s tourism sector. The funding will help seven businesses and organizations deliver new programs, experiences and services, expand guest capacity, improve accessibility and transition to clean energy.
Through investments like this, the Government of Canada will support the expansion and diversification of businesses and organizations offering accommodation and experiences in the North, further strengthening Yukon’s tourism sector.

“We are grateful for CanNor’s investment in helping us build new programs and experiences for our visitors. Recently, we hosted a picnic on the historic British Yukon Navigator Woodchuck to showcase the history of the Yukon River. Events like this, sharing and celebrating our history in new and vibrant ways, would not have been possible without CanNor’s support.”
Patricia Canning, Director of the MacBride Museum
“We’d like to extend a huge thank you to CanNor and the Yukon Government for their continued support of northern small businesses, where we are reminded of the power of community and collaboration. We’re so grateful for your support of our small, Indigenous-owned businesses as they embark on new projects and continue their exciting work across the North 60. Keep an eye out for Cardinal Camp at Nomad Ranch.”

“For the past 35 years, Dalton Trail Lodge has burned approximately 50,000 litres of diesel fuel each year. Thanks to CanNor’s generous support, we finally ordered a solar power system this spring that will be up and running by February 2025. This will save over 40,000 litres of diesel fuel per year, making Dalton Trail Lodge a quieter place with a significantly reduced carbon footprint.”
Hardy Ruff, Owner of Dalton Trail Lodge
“CanNor’s support has allowed us to expand our facilities at Cabins Over Crag Lake. Our new bunkhouse can accommodate up to 40 guests and we’ll be serving homemade wood-fired pizza and sourdough bread, as well as a cold plunge sauna – all with amazing views. We’re especially excited to host 40 breaking and hip-hop dancers for Cypher for Change in August. We’re committed to continuing to expand and serve Yukon residents and visitors from beyond the region.”
Andrea Simpson Fowler, Owner of Cabins Over Crag Lake
“We are extremely grateful to CanNor for funding our project to build eco-friendly prefab bunkhouses in Carmacks. This initiative not only addresses an immediate need for short-term accommodations in our area, but also aligns with our commitment to sustainable, environmentally conscious development. The addition of these rental structures will increase our ability to attract and accommodate visitors, contributing to the growth and vitality of our community. We look forward to this project having a positive impact on Carmacks and the broader region.”
Ron Gartshore, CEO of CarMax Development Corporation
“Fat biking has been an instant hit with our guests. It’s a fresh and uniquely northern way to get outside and explore – all year round, not just when it’s snowing. There aren’t many places where you can rent a fat bike, see some moose, get some coffee and soak in a hot spring – all in one trip.”
