For many people, safety is a top concern when choosing a travel destination, and given the current situation in the Middle East, including the Israel-Hamas war and the U.S. State Department’s global travel advisory, safety is even more important. This is a matter of consideration. To help you pinpoint the safest countries to travel in 2024, Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection has published its “Safest Destinations” report for the ninth year in a row. This report ranks both the safest countries and safest cities in the world.

This year’s top safest countries are Canada, Switzerland, and Norway.

Of course, travel safety comes in many forms. These include destinations free from terrorism, destinations protected from the elements, countries with strong infrastructure to prevent traffic accidents, and areas where people of color and LGBTQ+ travelers feel safe and comfortable.

For this list, the insurer surveyed 1,702 travelers and drew from third-party sources to assess safety concerns such as terrorism, weather emergencies, health measures, and the safety of underrepresented groups. data points were also considered.

Travelers must have visited the country being evaluated within the past five years. The study includes data from the World Peace Index and the State Department’s Travel Safety Rating. The study also incorporates his GeoSure Global scores for each country’s major cities. This score takes into account a variety of factors, including women’s safety, theft, basic freedoms, and health and medical factors.

An important thing to note about Berkshire Hathaway’s report is that the ratings are “predictive,” meaning they do not take into account the possibility of natural disasters. The survey was conducted in August and September, and Iceland, as an example, is included on this year’s list despite thousands of small earthquakes rocking the country in recent weeks.
