Royal Caribbean Cruise Line has canceled more stops at one of its most popular destinations due to safety concerns.
RoyalCaribbeanblog.com, a website that tracks the route, reported that guests with reservations for the summer and early fall are receiving notifications that their visits to Labadee, Haiti, have been cancelled. Labadee is a private resort operated by Royal Caribbean.
The line had previously canceled visits to Labadee until the end of May. Stops were replaced with visits to other destinations and days at sea.
According to the website, the cancellations include Adventure of the Seas, Independence of the Seas, Liberty of the Seas, Freedom of the Seas and Symphony of the Seas.・Several Royal Caribbean ships, including Seas, are reportedly affected.
Royal Caribbean announced in March that it would suspend calls to resorts on Haiti’s north coast after the U.S. State Department issued a warning not to visit the country. Haiti has been placed on a Level 4 travel advisory, along with Russia, Syria and Burkina Faso, due to problems with “kidnapping, crime, civil unrest, and poor health infrastructure,” according to U.S. officials.
Haiti is located on the island of Hispaniola, which is shared with the Dominican Republic to the east. The Dominican Republic is under a Level 2 advisory, and visitors are urged to take extra precautions.
