ASIATODAY.ID, Banyuwangi – On Saturday morning, April 20, 2024, a tourist from China was found dead after falling in the Ijen Crater in Banyuwangi, East Java. The victim was identified as HL, 31 years old.
Dwi Putro Sugiarto, head of the nature conservation department in Banyuwangi Region V, confirmed the incident.
“Yes, that incident is true. It is known that the victim and his entourage left Paltudin around 02.10 WIB and headed for Ijen Crater,” Dowi said.
Dowi said the victim had come down from the mountain trail at the time, and that he and his group then returned to the crater rim to watch the sunset.
“After they saw the blue flames, they went down the mountain and returned to Mount Ijen to watch the sunset,” he added.

Later, while his wife was posing on a branch on the edge of the crater, a slip-and-fall incident occurred.
Mr Dowie explained that the incident was just an accident. He said authorities have reminded all tourists to be careful when climbing Mount Ijen.
“This incident happened purely as a result of an accident. We have always reminded all tourists to be careful and this is the first time,” he explained.
Slippy Sector Police Chief AKP Junadi said the victim’s body was taken to Brambangan Regional General Hospital for further treatment. Her husband and tour guide accompanied her when her body was taken to the hospital.
“The victim’s condition is dead due to impact injuries and fractured leg bones. The plan is for the victim’s body to be returned to the state,” Junadi said. (AT network)
