TEHRAN – The Iranian government wrapped up its East Asia Tourism Roadshow on Thursday with a final event in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, after stops in Vietnam and Malaysia.
The one-day event in the Indonesian capital brought together key government officials and private sector leaders from both countries for business meetings and discussions on future tourism agreements, IRNA reported.
Iran’s Deputy Minister of Tourism Ali Asghar Sharbafian stressed the importance of such events in strengthening bilateral ties and met with Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Martini Mohammad Parham.
Highlighting Iran’s diverse travel attractions, Sharbafian said the country is famous for religious, cultural, handicraft and culinary tourism as well as medical tourism.
“Iran is one of the top destinations for high-tech medical treatment in the Middle East,” he said.
In addition, Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia Mohammad Boroujerdi discussed the development of tourism cooperation between the two countries.
“We are working with the Indonesian government to finalize the administrative procedures to obtain permission for direct flights between Iran and Indonesia,” the ambassador said.
The event continued with the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between Iran Tourism Association Chairman Mustafa Shafiei Shakib and Indonesian Tourism and Travel Association (ASITA) Central Executive Committee Chairman Nunun Rusmiati.
The travel agencies then held a B2B meeting to forge collaboration that is expected to increase tourist numbers in both countries.
The event was part of Iran’s Southeast Asia Tourism Roadshow 2024 framework and came after it held sessions in Vietnam’s capital Hanoi and Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur aimed at strengthening tourism ties.
