Each year, the World Travel Awards recognizes the best in the tourism and hospitality industry. This year, travel experts and the public selected nominations and winners for Europe’s best new hotels that offer travelers the ultimate destination.

Hotels in Spain and Portugal came up with a number of nominations, followed by Italy, Greece and England. Leading brands included Marriott Resorts and Domes Resorts, but there was particular interest in urban real estate and historic locations.

The top winners announced at a gala ceremony in Berlin this week were Best New Hotel: The Peninsula London and Best New Boutique Hotel: Casa Palacio Don Ramon in Seville, Spain. Other winners in the luxury category include One&Only Aesthesis in Greece, Savoy Palace in Portugal, Roma Cavalieri in Italy, Forte Village in Italy and Valverde Hotel in Portugal. The Venice Simplon Orient Express won the award for best luxury train.

Inspired by the life of Grand Duchess Dorothea and Joseph Palatine in 19th century Budapest, the property is housed in three grand buildings and features 216 contemporary rooms and suites. There is a BIBO Andalusian rooftop brasserie by Dani Garcia and a spacious spa with gym.

Founded in 1838, this iconic hotel is the city’s oldest grand hotel. It is located near exclusive shopping streets and the promenade leading to Lake Zurich. The 80 modern rooms include 36 suites, the largest in the city.

Moxy Tromsø (Norway)

The 208-room hotel is part of the Marriott Experience Hotels brand, aimed at young travelers on a budget. The roof terrace on the 11th floor offers dramatic views of the city and fjord.

Munich Marriott Hotel City West (Germany)

Located in the heart of Munich, this hotel has 398 rooms and suites. The hotel’s M Club is located on his 7th floor and has a private terrace with stunning views of the Alps.

The hotel is located near the Presidential Palace and Senate Square. It features 117 guest rooms, including 38 suites. There is also a Maria Spa and multiple cuisine options.
