Gastrotourism is becoming increasingly popular in Japan

Experts say gastronomic tourism is on the rise in Hungary, with more people visiting the country to discover the best Hungarian cuisine.

Panon Gastronomic Academy (PGA) Chairman Balázs Čapodi told MTI that with the growth of gastronomic tourism, the number of Michelin-starred restaurants in Hungary could also increase. Currently, there are two Michelin two-star restaurants, seven one-star restaurants, and six so-called Bib Gourmand restaurants in the country. He said the latter is a restaurant that serves high-quality food and has good value for money, allowing people to get high-quality food at a lower price.

He added that the number of these restaurants will continue to grow and the number of restaurants offering high quality will increase. There is also demand from customers, as more and more customers are looking for high quality and making conscious choices. Many people buy high-quality meat and bread from local producers.

Some foreigners come to Hungary for the restaurants and wine.

Csapody said visitor numbers are likely to increase further this year, with domestic tourism also expected to recover and people to spend more as real wages rise.

László Kovács, President of the Hungarian Hospitality Industry Association (MVI), said:

The fact that the Hungarian team made it to the finals of the Bocuse d’Or International Culinary Competition held in Lyon this year also shows that this country has talented professionals.

He stressed that Hungarians are at the forefront of Europe and their work has a huge impact not only on their immediate environment but also on the profession as a whole.

He added: “Hungary’s good position in gastronomy is outstanding not only in the region but also worldwide. Hungarian cuisine is world class.” I gave an example of the variety of soups. More and more foreign tourists are coming to the country to learn about Hungarian gastronomy and try its cuisine, he said.

Kovacs said the Tourism Advisory Committee, which was established in March, has already held its first meeting. The Board serves as an advisory and consultative body to the Ministry of National Economy on issues affecting the tourism sector and meets quarterly. He said the creation of this body is very important as stakeholders in the sector are expected to provide information and suggestions directly to the government so that it can make better informed decisions. said. In this way, it will also help exploit the potential of Hungarian tourism more effectively, making Hungary an even more attractive destination for domestic and international tourists alike.
