For anyone suddenly feeling the urge to travel for the summer, Google has released the top 20 destinations that travelers are already interested in for upcoming warm-weather getaways.
From domestic to international, Google is sharing insights based on historical flight booking data and search trends with “Good Morning America” to help people plan their summer getaway destinations and create their perfect itinerary.
As with all the ignores and surprises during awards season, there are some venues that have fallen out of favor from last year, while there are also some new additions to this year’s list.

Google Flights’ top destinations for summer 2024
The search engine technology company said the list reflects people in the United States who searched on Google Flights for travel between June 1 and August 31, 2024.

Cancun, previously the number one summer destination, has dropped to sixth place, while Tokyo has moved up in the rankings and Madrid and San Juan are new additions to the summer destination rankings.

According to Google, the biggest changes from 2023 are that Cancun drops from second to sixth place and Tokyo moves up from eighth to third place.
New additions to the list of popular destinations include San Juan, Puerto Rico and Madrid, Spain. Chicago and San Francisco did not make the top 20 this year.
Travel trends in Google Search
Google is collecting insights from US users between mid-January and mid-March to understand what travel-related searches are most popular ahead of the summer.
Searches for “travel itineraries” and “solo travel” hit record highs in January.
Two of the most popular “weekend getaway” destinations are Palm Springs and the Florida Keys.
The most popular “romantic getaway” destinations were Napa, California’s famous wine region, and Key West, the southernmost point of the continental United States and home to some of its historic landmarks.
Finally, La Romana and St. John were the most searched destinations for all-inclusive resorts.
