GREAT FALLS — National Parks Week runs from April 20 to April 28, 2024, with daily events that encourage people to get outside and learn more about the country they’re a part of.
On April 20, entrance fees will be waived for all national parks to encourage visitors. At Glacier National Park, you don’t have to pay the typical $35 per vehicle. Glacier will also host a Junior Ranger Day from 10 to 2 p.m., sponsored in part by the Glacier National Park Conservancy.
“It’s open to the public, admission is free, and there are activities like dressing up like a park ranger, learning how to use a park radio, and an animal Olympics,” said Glacier National Park spokeswoman Gina Eisnogle. It is scheduled to take place.” She added: “Prizes related to Junior Ranger Day will be available for participants.”
If you are unable to attend on the 20th, another Junior Ranger Day will be held at the Medicine Spring Library at Blackfeet Community College on April 27th from 11pm to 3pm.
The beauty and importance of national parks cannot be overstated. Icenogle believes that the breathtaking environment of glaciers is what makes them so magical.
“I think the magic is in the name… what the glacier left behind is what’s iconic, and that’s the gorges and mountain lakes it left behind,” Icenogle said. A river with clear water flowing through Glacier National Park. ”
Of course, national parks don’t operate in isolation, and around 20,000 people across the country keep them in good working order.
“Currently, the park employs approximately 120 full-time employees year-round,” Icenogle said. . That has led to a huge influx of employees to keep the park open during the summer, when it welcomes about 3 million visitors. ”
National Park Week is a great time to visit other smaller national parks and monuments, such as Grant Coles Ranch, the Battle of Little Bighorn, and Big Hole National Battlefield.
Glacier “Yeah, that’s right. It’s a great place to come. “But these smaller parks are just as interesting, and National Parks Week is about the history of our parks and what we do with them. It’s an opportunity to dig into what we’re trying to talk about,” Icenogle said of the country’s monuments. ”
Starting May 24th, vehicle reservations will be required to access Sun Road and the North Fork area of the park. Many Glacier on the east side will require reservations starting July 1st. Reservations are not required at the Two Medicine or St. Mary’s Park entrances.

Saturday April 20th: Discovery. What will you discover? New places, new interesting facts, new activities… To kick off National Parks Week and encourage that new discovery, admission will be free on April 20th.
April 21st (Sunday): Volunteer. Use your time and talents as a national park volunteer. Find opportunities to volunteer at single events or long-term positions.
Monday, April 22nd: Earth Day. Join us at a global celebration that encourages education and stewardship of the earth’s natural resources. Volunteer events are held at many parks. You can also find ways to practice conservation at home.
Tuesday, April 23rd: Innovation. Our nation’s history of innovation is preserved in our national parks. Also, learn about the innovative projects happening in the parks and through our programs today.
Wednesday, April 24: Workers’ Wednesday. Meet our amazing people: employees, interns, fellows, volunteers, contractors, partners, and more. Please consider joining our team.
Thursday, April 25: Youth participation. We’re recruiting a new generation of stewards! Learn about opportunities for youth and young adults to get involved and see what your peers are doing.
Friday, April 26: Community Connections. Learn about the important work our programs and partners are doing in communities across the country, inside and outside park boundaries.
Saturday, April 27th: Junior Ranger Day. Become a Junior Ranger for kids (and kids at heart) with in-person or online activities to learn about special places and topics. You might even earn a Junior Ranger Badge!
April 28th (Sunday): Art in the park. Home to a wealth of art, past and present, discover the muse that creates art within the park. Also, learn about preserving and practicing the arts in your community through our programs and the work of our partners.
