Travel inspiration and planning has consistently been cited as a major use case for generative artificial intelligence since the technology gained attention a little over a year ago.

Now, OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, is showcasing how generative AI can be used to improve the visitor experience by providing personalized recommendations that go beyond a typical “to-do” list. We want to help you understand.

The company is partnering with the city of Dublin, Ireland, which was recently named the European Smart Tourism Capital of 2024.

This collaboration begins with two initiatives. First, Open AI and the City of Dublin will partner with Dublin-based data consultancy Data & Design to create a proof of concept for a ‘Dublin Itinerary Planner’ built on GPT-4.

According to a news release, the tool “showcases how Dublin’s rich cultural heritage and vibrant city life can be made more accessible to visitors through bespoke travel recommendations.” This prototype was designed to demonstrate the potential of generative AI to support unique and bespoke experiences for your visitors, rather than a generic to-do list. ”

Second, the partners will host a workshop in September for destination leaders across the European Union on how to use AI for city promotion, destination branding, tourism engagement, itinerary planning, and more. is.

“OpenAI is excited to work with the City of Dublin to support the future of tourism in Europe,” said Anna Makanju, Global Vice President, OpenAI.

“Our advanced AI technologies, including GPT-4, have the potential to revolutionize the way people explore and experience destinations. We look forward to working together to create solutions.”

OpenAI and the City of Dublin said they are committed to “leading the way in smart tourism innovation”.

Rudi O’ Reilly Meehan, founder of Data & Design, said: “There is little doubt about the transformative power of OpenAI technologies such as GPT-4. This collaboration aims to harness this power to create tools that will benefit travelers visiting Dublin. In this case, we will deliver bespoke itineraries created using generative AI. We are pleased to be working with Dublin City Council and OpenAI in building this prototype. There is huge scope to expand into other cities and experiences.”
