Each Six Flags park offers a number of exhilarating rides and attractions that put these destinations at the top of the list for thrill seekers and families.
Here, we’ve ranked all 23 Six Flags parks in America and explained why. It wasn’t an easy task to rank them, but we hope this list will guide you to the best destinations to satisfy all the thrills and excitement you’re looking for. Let’s take a ride!

17. Tie: Hurricane Harbor Rockford
Rockford, Illinois
In late 2018, Six Flags announced it would take over operations of Magic Waters, which had been in operation since 1984. This long-lived Water Park, although beloved by the surrounding community, is quite small and really wasn’t. It was originally built as a Six Flags park. Now it’s officially Hurricane Harbor, and we can’t wait to see what Six Flags has in store for Rockford in 2023.

17. Tie: Hurricane Harbor Splashtown

Located in Houston’s Springs suburb, Wet ‘n’ Wild Splashtown became Hurricane Harbor Splashtown in early 2019. As Houston’s largest waterpark, Splashtown definitely attracts the attention of people who live in the area, but it’s not all that appealing. For people outside the city.

17. Tie: Hurricane Harbor Chicago
Gurnee, Illinois
Originally part of Six Flags Great America, the water park became independent in 2021. It offers around 25 water attractions, including Tsunami Surge, a water coaster with dazzling visual effects.

Phoenix, Arizona
Formerly Waterworld Safari and then Wet N’ Wild Phoenix, after Six Flags purchased the property (notice a trend here?) it is now Hurricane Harbor Phoenix and is perfect for kids. However, its locality, focus on rides for young children, and lack of large coasters tie it to Splash Town.

17. Tie: Hurricane Harbor Concord

This family-friendly park northeast of San Francisco has some interesting waterslides, but they’re all very common and not very appealing to most adults. In early 2018, the park’s brand name changed from Waterworld California to Hurricane Harbor in Concord. The new name comes with a new experience: Splashwater Island, an interactive playground.

16. Frontier City and Hurricane Harbor OKC
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Frontier City and Hurricane Harbor OKC are both operated by Six Flags, so you can expect a similar experience. However, the overall feel is a little different than the larger Six Flags park. Frontier City boasts a western theme. Even coasters and rides that you might find at other parks have something a little special about them. Hurricane Harbor OKC offers a familiar mix of soaking wet rides and family-friendly play areas.

15. Six Flags Over Texas
Arlington, Texas
Six Flags in the Dallas-Fort Worth area has plenty of character-based rides to keep kids entertained all day long. However, if you are not interested in the atmosphere, it will be difficult to have a good time. Due to its niche market, this park is placed lower on the list. But be sure to check out nearby Hurricane Harbor (more on that later).

14. Great Escape & Splashwater Kingdom

Splashwater in upstate New York ranks low on the list because aquatic attractions are cheap. Note: Although Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Waterpark is technically considered a separate property in the Six Flags theme park system, we lump it in with Splashwater Kingdom. Because this resort cannot stand on its own when competing with larger destinations.

Darien Lake’s giant amusement park has been passed from owner to owner, but Six Flags is back in control. In 2019, Darien Lake was rebranded to Six Flags Darien Lake. Rides here include the Tantrum, which reaches speeds of 82 miles per hour, and the Predator, New York’s largest wooden roller coaster. The property also has a water park, amphitheater, hotel accommodations, and a full-service campground.

12. Six Flags America

The great thing about Six Flags America is the variety of rides. A great example of this is the apocalypse-themed roller coaster pictured above. What’s not so great is that the thrill options are mediocre compared to other parks. In our humble opinion, Six Flags America is middling when compared to other top-ranked (read: exhilarating) Six Flags parks.

The Sky Screamer, also known as the “World’s Tallest Ride,” is a giant swing set that saves this humble amusement park.

10. Six Flags Adventure

The Great Adventure has a little bit of everything. There are plenty of activities for younger children, including a wildlife-filled safari, and some for slightly older children. With this range of strength, this park is one of the more manageable options for large groups and families. Six Flags eventually dropped “and Safari” from the park’s name, but you can still enjoy the wildlife attractions.

9. Hurricane Harbor Arlington

Based in Texas, Hurricane Harbor is a resort-style theme park with a neat division of thrill rides and easy options. Its large wading pool is a unique offering above the middle of the pack. This park is also very close to Six Flags Over Texas, so if you’re in the area, you can enjoy a two-fer.

What better way to satisfy your animal lover than with a trip to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom? Who doesn’t love a 4D monkey experience? Classic thrill seekers won’t be disappointed with the roller coaster options. It’s also close to downtown San Francisco, making day trips easy.

6. Hurricane Harbor New Jersey

Hurricane Harbor in New Jersey is definitely one of the more competitive parks in the Six Flags park lineup. Just two hours south of New York City, multi-lane waterslides and tubing adventures abound. This park is also located next to Six Flags Great Adventure, making it a great option if you want to visit both.

5. Six Flags Magic Mountain
Los Angeles
At this park near Santa Clarita, about an hour north of Los Angeles, comic book fans will get a thrill with themed rides, and adrenaline junkies will love options like Scream, Viper, Twisted Colossus, and X2. Magic Mountain is best combined with nearby Hurricane Harbor (read more).

4. Six Flags Great America

Vertical speed allows it to go from 0 to 70 mph in just 4 seconds. The ridiculously twisted X-Flight allows you to hang off the side of a truck. The Demon was originally called Turn of the Century and he was one of the first coasters with double corkscrews. For all these reasons and more, Six Flags Great America near the city of Chicago ranks No. 4 on his list.

A 700,000-gallon wave pool tops this Six Flags water park. More relaxed tubing and wading areas are perfect for escaping the Georgia heat, and exhilarating rides like Typhoon Twister and Gulf Coast Scream are also available. Combine your visit here with a visit to Six Flags Over Georgia (more on that later…).

3. Tie: Six Flags Fiesta Texas
San Antonio, Texas
When the weather is sweltering, there are few words more welcoming than the “world’s largest rocket-powered water coaster,” located in the water park portion of Six Flags Fiesta Texas called White Water Bay. The Iron Rattler is a terrifying and amazing wooden roller coaster. Don’t scream when you’re free falling from a height of 205 feet.

2. Six Flags Over Georgia

Water and land options abound, including the 20-story Acrophobia and Blue Hawk, a mind-boggling mess of loops and twists. The quality and variety of attractions here puts it just shy of the top spot on our list of the best Six Flags parks. While you’re there, don’t forget to visit White Water (tied for 3rd place).

1. Hurricane Harbor Los Angeles
Los Angeles
The Bonzai Pipeline drops into a 50-foot free fall, then slides down another 60-foot slide until it reaches the pool below. At Black Snake Summit he has four different record-breaking slides. Taboo Tower is literally trying to tell you not to live up to its name. Need I say more? Hurricane Harbor in Los Angeles is perfect for cooling down after a trip from Magic His Mountain (number 5), which is right across the street. All of these reasons make this the best Six Flags park in the country.
