episode notes

Skift Research has released its World Travel Outlook 2024, which states that while Asia will lead the growth in the travel industry, Europe’s travel boom is likely to slow.

According to forecasts, the Asia-Pacific region will grow by 20% compared to 2023. Research analyst Saniya Zampure writes that the region received a big boost when China eased strict coronavirus-era restrictions in January 2023. Meanwhile, travel revenue in Europe is expected to increase by only 5%. Zampure said she noted that Europe faces challenges such as inflation and climate-related concerns.

Next, Frontier Airlines announced Thursday that it would launch business fares as part of its strategy to attract corporate travelers, writes aviation reporter Meghna Maharishi.

Frontier claims that BizFare allows companies to save on business travel expenses. The tickets will be made available through the company’s global distribution channels. Maharishi added that the new fares could help Frontier cater to travelers who don’t typically fly on ultra-low-cost carriers for business.

Finally, Royal Caribbean believes its new Icon of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, will help it become more competitive with destinations like Las Vegas and Orlando for family vacations. , writes global tourism reporter Dawit Habtemariam.

Royal Caribbean Group CEO Jason Liberty said during the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call that the company is now in a position to compete with perennially popular tourist destinations. Told. Her $2 billion, 20-story ship has eight different sections, each offering a different experience for guests. Liberty added that Royal Caribbean plans to further innovate to reduce the value gap between the company and land-based vacations.
